Placeholders let you reserve spots for participants or media in your Studio scenes, making it easy to create consistent layouts and reuse them across streams.

How to add placeholders

  1. In Studio, click the + icon under the preview screen.

  2. Select Media placeholder or Participant placeholder.

  3. For participants: When a guest joins the Studio, toggle them on and they will automatically fill the first available placeholder.

For media: Add your media content when you're ready, and it will fill the placeholder.

How to manage placeholders

To manage a placeholder, click the three dots on its preview window in your scene.

Participants:

  • Remove, keep placeholder – Hides the participant but keeps the placeholder reserved

  • Remove – Deletes both the participant and the placeholder from the scene

Media:

  • Replace – Swap the current media with different content

  • Remove – Deletes both the media and the placeholder from the scene

Requirements

  • This feature is available on any of our plans, including the free tier.

  • You can add up to 10 participant placeholders and one media placeholder per scene.

FAQ

What happens when all my placeholders are filled?

New guests will still appear in your scene as usual. As long as you haven’t reached your guest limit, they’ll join normally - just not in a placeholder.

Do placeholders work for guests who join with audio only?

Yes. Guests who join without a camera will still fill a placeholder, showing their initials instead of a video feed.

Do placeholders stay in my Studio drafts?

Yes. Whenever you reopen a draft, even one you’ve already streamed to, your placeholders will still be there, so there’s no need to set them up again.
