Virtual Background settings in Studio

How to use a green screen

  1. Go to Restream Studio and click the gear ⚙️ icon under your preview window.

  2. Go to the Virtual Background menu.

  3. Click the Key color menu and select the color of your screen, e.g. green.

  4. Select your background - you can use a default image or upload your own.

Requirements

  • We support multiple key colors; green, blue, magenta, or custom.

  • You can upload up to 10 custom backgrounds; the recommended size is 1920x1080.

  • Green screen works on almost all devices, but we recommend using a powerful computer since it uses your graphics processor (GPU).

  • For best results, we recommend using Chrome as your browser, with hardware acceleration enabled.

FAQ

Do I need additional equipment to use a green screen?

Yes, you will need a physical green screen (or blue/magenta/custom screen). If you don't have one, you can use automatic virtual backgrounds instead.

My background flickers. Any tips?

Consider your camera. Green screens work better with digital cameras. If you are using a built-in one, make sure it's as high quality as possible and not blurry.

Light is your friend! The better lit you are, the easier it is to isolate you from your background. Good lighting will also improve your camera quality.

You can also click "Show advanced options" in your virtual background settings to adjust Similarity, Smoothness, and Spill.

How can I turn on hardware acceleration?

Copy and paste this link in Chrome: chrome://settings/system

Make sure "Use graphics acceleration when available" is toggled on.
