Stream live with ultra-low latency to any WHIP-compatible channel, even if it’s not on our list of supported destinations.

⚠️ WHIP protocol support is currently in beta and is not yet recommended for production-grade streaming workflows.

How to add a Custom WHIP Channel

  1. From your home screen, click the Channels button.

  2. Click Add Channels.

  3. Select Custom WHIP from the options.

  4. Enter the WHIP URL provided by the platform you’re streaming to. The URL must begin with http:// or https://.

  5. You can also set a display name for your channel. This is optional but helpful if you're working with multiple custom channels, so you can easily tell them apart.

  6. Click Add Channel to save.

  7. Your WHIP channel is set up — you just need to choose how you’ll go live.

Requirements

  • WHIP channels are available on all plans, including Free.

  • WHIP input and output are currently in beta.

  • API-dependent features like Restream Chat and Analytics will not work for custom channels.

FAQ

What is WHIP?

WHIP (WebRTC-HTTP Ingest Protocol) is a streaming method designed for ultra-low latency live video. It uses WebRTC technology to minimise delay, making it well-suited when near-real-time streaming is desired.

How do I get a WHIP URL?

Your WHIP URL comes from the platform you want to stream to. Keep in mind that not all platforms support WHIP as it's a newer technology and availability varies.

If you're unsure where to find it or whether your platform supports WHIP, check their documentation or contact their support team for guidance.

Is WHIP input supported?

Yes! WHIP input is supported. You can follow this guide to set it up.

What does "Channel doesn't support custom titles" mean?

Custom channels do not support setting titles via Restream, as they are connected manually. You can update your stream's title on the end platform directly.

I didn't set a display name when I added the channel; can I do it later?

Absolutely. Click the Channels button on your home screen and click the three dots next to your custom SRT channel. Then, select Edit channel to change the display name. This helps keep your channels organized and easy to identify.
