Expecting guests on your next stream? We have created this guide to ensure you and your guests have a seamless experience every time you go live.

How to join a stream as a guest

  1. Access the invite link your host provided.

  2. Click the Allow button that will pop up in your browser to let Restream access your camera and microphone.

  3. Enter the name you want to use for the broadcast and click Join Stream.

  4. Once you're in the waiting room, you will be able to see what is happening in the stream preview, but you won't be visible yet.

  5. As soon as the host pulls you on air, you'll see yourself in the stream preview.

  6. You can see a list of the Studio features you can use as a Guest here.

The basics

  • A good device with a camera and microphone.

  • Test your internet connection here - select the “Single” test.

    • Your upload speed should be at least 10 Mbps.

    • 25 Mbps or higher is recommended for Full HD streams

  • Close any unnecessary applications running in the background.

  • Plug in your laptop or your phone for optimal device performance.

  • Use the latest version of Chrome (recommended browser), with minimum extensions enabled.

    • If you're using your phone, use Chrome on Android and Safari on iOS.

  • Use headphones to minimize echo from other speakers.

  • Use a window or lamp to illuminate your face, and avoid backlighting.

Nice to have

  • Joining the stream from your computer is more enjoyable than a mobile phone.

  • A wired internet connection (ethernet cable) for increased stability.

  • A USB microphone for enhanced audio quality.

  • A high-quality web camera for improved video clarity.

  • Professional lighting and a simple background for a professional look.

Don't forget to turn off your notifications, look at the camera, and have fun!
