Backup stream - is an automated system that switches between two of your incoming streams (ingests) in case of any troubles with your main stream source without interrupting the stream for your viewers.

Important: To be able to use a Backup stream feature you need at least a Business plan.

  3. There will be two RTMP links (they are identical and are determined by the server you have chosen) and two different streaming keys.ย

  4. Primary stream 1 (RTMP URL and streaming key on top) is your primary source and Backup stream 2 is your backup source. You need to set up 2 separate encoders - the first of them should stream to Primary stream 1, and the other one should stream to Backup stream 2. The latter will be used for fallback streaming.

โ— Please select "Custom" service in your stream settings to be able to use the RTMP URL provided by Restream.

  5. After setting up both encoders, start streaming, and your stream will be delivered to Restream.io and all your connected services.ย

Setting up Fallback in OBS

If anything happens to your primary stream, the system will seamlessly switch to another source with no visible transition.

Important: When the primary stream is back, we will not switch to it, only when the backup stream goes down.

Have fun with your streams, and be sure that Backup got your back ๐Ÿ˜‰
