Backup stream - is an automated system that switches between two of your incoming streams (ingests) in case of any troubles with your main stream source without interrupting the stream for your viewers.

Important: To be able to use a Backup stream feature you need at least a Business plan.

Fail Safe Stream Backup scheme

Setting Up Backup Stream

  1. Navigate to your Restream Dashboard and click the "Set up for OBS, Zoom etc." button.

  2. Press the Add backup stream button.

  3. There will be two RTMP links (they are identical and are determined by the server you have chosen) and two different streaming keys.

  4. Primary stream 1 (RTMP URL and streaming key on top) is your primary source and Backup stream 2 is your backup source. You need to set up 2 separate encoders - the first of them should stream to Primary stream 1, and the other one should stream to Backup stream 2. The latter will be used for fallback streaming.

  5. After setting up both encoders, start streaming, and your stream will be delivered to Restream.io and all your connected services.

Setting up Fallback in OBS

If anything happens to your primary stream the system will seamlessly switch to another source with no visible transition.

Important: When the primary stream is back, we will not switch to it, only when the backup stream goes down.

Please note that the Backup feature doesn't work for Restream events.

Have fun with your streams and be sure that Backup got your back 😉
