If you want to stream to a platform not listed among supported services, you can use our Custom RTMP feature and stream to any destination that provides an RTMP URL and stream key.

For example, you would like to stream to Vimeo. Vimeo is not on the list of supported services and can be connected via RTMP.

In this guide, we'll cover:

⚙️ Requirements

  • You’ll need a paid plan to unlock streaming to the Custom RTMP channel.

  • Please note that API-dependent features like Chat and Analytics will not work for Custom RTMP channels.

🧐 How to add a Custom RTMP Channel

  1. Navigate to your Restream Dashboard.

  2. Proceed to click the "Edit Destinations" button, followed by "Add Destination".

  3. Select the option "Custom RTMP" from the list.

  4. Fill in the RTMP URL and stream key, as provided by the platform you are connecting to, and confirm by clicking "Add channel".

❗️If you need to use RTMPS, the steps are the same; just use your RTMPS URL instead of an RTMP URL.

💡 You can also use RTMP Authentication with your username and password, but normally, this is unnecessary.

Status Information

Please keep in mind that some Custom RTMP platforms might be unable to receive status information. While most channels will show "Online/Offline" or "Connecting..." a Custom RTMP platform may show "Statuses for this platform are not supported". This is a warning/notification and not an error.

Stream Titles

Upon connecting a Custom RTMP channel, Restream will display the message "Title setup isn't supported for the platform" under your list of destinations when you start a new stream or set up a Restream Event. This is not an error but a warning to notify you that Custom RTMP destinations do not support setting titles and will not display a stream title the way our supported platforms do. The title setting will continue working normally for the rest of our support services, and your stream will reach the Custom RTMP channel just fine, despite the warning displayed.
