Restream Studio offers powerful chat features to help you engage and interact with your audience.

How to use Chat in Studio

Once you're in the Studio, click the Chat tab and you'll find various ways to use Restream's Chat feature.

1. Overlay

Display incoming messages from your connected platforms directly on your live stream for all of your viewers to see. Toggle on the Overlay button to activate.

2. Highlight comments

Showcase a specific chat comment, making it stand out to your audience. In the Chat section, click on a message and it will instantly display on the bottom of your stream.

3. Pin messages

Need to organize important comments in a crowded chat? Hover over a message and click the star icon ⭐️ to pin it to a separate list for you to review later. You can pin up to 50 messages.

Requirements

  • Pick the right browser for your operating system:

    • Windows, macOS, and Linux: Chrome (recommended), Firefox, Arc, Edge, Safari (least preferred).

    • Android: Chrome (recommended), Firefox.

    • iOS: Safari 14+

  • Keep your browser updated to the latest version.

  • Avoid ad blockers and browser extensions that may interfere with your setup.

FAQ

Can I customize the look of a comment on my stream?

Yes, under the Design tab on the right side of the Studio. You can change the theme or primary color. Whatever selections you choose there will apply to your highlighted messages.

Can I ban certain chatters or words?

Yes. Click the three dots next to a message and select Add to blocklist. This will stop messages from that user's name from appearing in your chat. Keep in mind this only blocks their messages from appearing on Restream, not your platforms.

For more options, go to your Filtering settings. Here, you can add or remove names from your blocklist or you can filter specific words from appearing in your chat.

Will the chat disappear if I refresh my browser?

No. If you reload the Studio, the last 100 chat messages will be restored. This applies to chats from both hosts and guests, in both instant streams and events, for as long as the room is active. Leaving the Studio for a few minutes will close it and clear the chat history.

💡 Forward messages from one platform to another for all of your viewers to see.
