Yes. Restream is a legitimate live streaming platform, founded in 2015 and used by more than 10 million creators and organizations. It's run by Restream, Inc., based in Austin, Texas, with offices in Austin, Tallinn, Kyiv, and Cascais. Restream doesn't store your full payment card details, doesn't sell personal information, and supports two-factor authentication.
Below: how Restream handles your payments, connected channels, stream keys, and personal data, and what you can do to keep your account secure.
Is Restream legit?
Restream lets creators and businesses produce live videos and broadcast them to multiple platforms at once. It has been operating since 2015 and is backed by Sapphire Ventures and Insight Partners (a $50M Series A in 2020). Organizations that have used Restream include The Game Awards, the World Economic Forum, the WHO, and Mercedes-Benz.
Is it safe to pay for Restream?
Payments for Restream are processed by third-party payment providers, including Stripe. Restream doesn't directly collect or store your full payment card information.
Why does Restream need my stream key or access to my channels?
To send your stream to several platforms at once, Restream needs permission to publish to each of them. There are two ways to connect a channel:
Platform authorization. Most platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn, connect when you log in to that platform and approve access. Restream then receives basic account information used for authentication, like your username, user ID, email address, and profile picture.
Custom RTMP. For other destinations, you enter an RTMP URL and a stream key yourself.
In both cases, Restream uses your connected channel information, stream keys, and permissions to provide streaming and other connected-platform features you use. The information processed depends on the features you use, the permissions you grant, and the platforms you connect.
You stay in control. You can delete any channel on the Channels page: click the three dots next to it and select Delete. Deleting a channel also removes it from all stream setups. → How to add and enable your channels
Will multistreaming get my account banned?
Multistreaming is allowed on many major platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, and more. Nonetheless, each platform has its own rules and requirements. We encourage all our users to conduct their own research on the end platforms they stream to and any limitations they may impose, including any exclusivity contracts they may have with partners.
How does Restream protect my personal data?
Restream doesn't sell personal information.
Restream has administrative, technical, and physical safeguards against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration of personal information.
Restream acts as a data processor under GDPR and offers a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with Standard Contractual Clauses. → GDPR compliance
For full details, see the Privacy Policy.
Can I add extra protection to my account?
Yes. Restream supports two-factor authentication (2FA). When you log in, you enter a 6-digit code from an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, in addition to your password. To turn it on, go to Settings → Password → Enable 2FA. Save your recovery code somewhere safe: without it, support can't guarantee they'll be able to recover your account if you lose your phone. → How to enable two-factor authentication
How can I keep my account secure?
Use a strong, unique password.
Turn on two-factor authentication.
Never share your password, authentication codes, or stream keys.
Check permissions carefully when connecting accounts.
Go to Restream directly at restream.io rather than through unfamiliar links.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes. Go to Account settings → Delete My Account, enter your password, and confirm in the email you receive. Deletion is permanent: it removes your personal data, stream recordings, analytics, and destinations. Restream generally aims to complete deletion requests within 30 days. → Delete your account
