Requirements

  • Starting June 10th, 2024, Meta requires Facebook accounts to be at least 60 days old to go live.

  • You need a paid Restream plan to stream on Facebook Groups.

  • Groups require a manual setup, but Pages and Profiles are fully integrated.

  • Integration-dependent features like Chat and Analytics will not work for manually connected channels like Groups. You can view that data directly on Facebook.

  • Facebook's maximum stream length is 8 hours.

  • Enable the "Live videos" option in your Group settings to create streams.

  • Facebook has the following recommended stream settings:

    Video Guidelines

    • Resolution: Up to 1920 × 1080

    • FPS: max 60

    • Codec: H.264 (x264)

    • Mode: Strict CBR

    • Max Bitrate: 15,000 Kbps, adjust based on your resolution

    Audio Guidelines

    • Codec: AAC, Stereo

FAQ

What does "Set the title directly in your Facebook Group" mean?

Groups do not support setting titles via Restream, as they are connected manually.

You can update your title on Facebook directly under the stream you created.

Can I create Facebook Events with Restream?

Groups require a manual setup because Facebook does not offer an integration for third-party apps like Restream. You can create an event on your group directly and follow this guide to connect it to Restream.

For Pages and Profiles, you can use our event scheduling tool to create Facebook Events.

Can I stream pre-recorded videos to my Group?

Yes. To ensure that your video goes live automatically at the scheduled time, create an event on your group first and then connect it to Restream via the steps in this guide.

What is a persistent stream key, and how does it work?

A persistent stream key is reusable for every broadcast in your group without updating the key on Restream each time. You can only broadcast one video at a time with this key.

To use your persistent stream key with instant streams, follow the above steps.

To use your persistent key with a scheduled event, enable "Go live automatically at scheduled start time". Start streaming a few minutes earlier so Facebook can automatically start your broadcast at the scheduled time.

If you don't enable this setting, you'll need to click "Go live now" on your Facebook event after you start streaming from Restream. An internal preview of the stream will be sent to your event until you start streaming to your audience.

If you're scheduling multiple events in advance, use a persistent key with auto-start enabled or a unique key to tell them apart more easily. If you use a unique key, update it on Restream every time you go live.

What if I don't want to use a persistent stream key?

Without a persistent key, every live stream in your group will have a unique key. Update the key on Restream each time before you go live.

💡 Automate your stream setup with the ease of our Facebook Pages integration.
