Requirements

  • Verify you can go live: you must be at least 16 years old and have at least 1,000 followers on TikTok. Even if you meet these requirements and are able to go live on their mobile app, access to TikTok's RTMP streaming feature is not guaranteed.

  • The stream key is not permanent. You need to get a new one from TikTok and update it on Restream for each new stream.

  • We recommend using Portrait Mode in Restream Studio - it's ideal for a vertical orientation on mobile platforms like TikTok.

  • When starting the stream on the TikTok app, avoid closing or switching apps, as this may pause the broadcast and generate a new key.

  • TikTok has the following recommended stream settings:

    Video Guidelines

    • Resolution: 1080p (recommended) or at least 720p

    • FPS: 60 (recommended) or at least 30 for gaming and 24 for lifestyle

    • Video bitrate: around 2,500 Kbps, but depends on your bandwidth/resolution

    • Encoder: x264

    Audio Guidelines

    • Bitrate: 160 Kbps or 256 Kbps

FAQ

Why can't I find my RTMP credentials if I'm able to go live on the app directly?

TikTok currently provides limited users with access to their live-streaming feature for 3rd party software like Restream. Even if you can stream on the mobile app, you might not have access to your account's RTMP details for streaming via another service.

Access to this setup is entirely controlled by TikTok and is outside of Restream's control. If you meet their basic streaming requirements but lack RTMP access, contact TikTok directly and fill out this application form.

What happens if I stream in landscape mode?

TikTok will automatically transcode your stream and add black margins at the top and bottom of your feed. That will make it appear centered without cutting off the edges.

Do I get stream recordings?

On paid plans, Restream generates a stream recording for you under your storage. Recording limits vary per plan.

TikTok also generates recordings. To access them, go to your profile on the mobile app and click the three horizontal lines in the top right corner. Select Creator tools and go to the LIVE tab. Scroll down and tap LIVE recordings. TikTok stores stream recordings for 30 days with options to download or repurpose them.

Is TikTok Live Studio the same as RTMP for streaming software like Restream?

TikTok Live Studio is TikTok's desktop streaming app, available for Windows. It lets TikTok users go live on a desktop instead of using the mobile app. However, it doesn't offer RTMP credentials, so users can't connect it with third-party services like Restream.

Can I add TikTok to a scheduled stream?

Yes, but unlike other channels, you will need to set up your stream on TikTok and update the stream key on Restream shortly before the event goes live.

Is Tik Tok the same as TikTok?

Technically, it's "TikTok" (no space), but we know what you mean! We added this FAQ to make sure you find us, whether you type it with or without the space.
